The previous owner of my Allegro had clothespins stashed all over the place. I quickly realized by the markings on the curtains that he was using them to hold them shut. The curtains seemed stiff and brittle but I didn't think much of it.

Well, today I thought maybe I'd try to eliminate some of the sat-for-7-years smell by washing the curtains. I put a test set in the washer on the "delicate" setting. Dried them on a similar "delicate setting". They came out awesome. I was afraid the 30-year-old fabric would fall apart. But no - they are soft again and actually close without having to stretch them and use clothespins. And they smell better too!

Running the rest of them through now. All I have left are the 2 panels that separate the cab from the living quarters. They worry me a bit because of their size. Hopefully the washer won't hack them up.

Hi Jim,looks like you got lucky with those curtains.

Yep. They'd be spend to replace. By the looks of the lint filter in my dryer they're deteriorating fast. But they're all re installed now and look (and smell) great. Headed to the Promised Land this weekend and wanted to take care of some of the smaller stuff.

Gone's curtains were similar... when I washed them the linings completely disintegrated.  The curtains themselves came out perfect so I relined them all....
