Comment by Sylvia Ivie yesterday I thought it might be heavy with all that wood. Us lay-folk don't think about that much unless they have someone in the family that does truck driving for a living. It is beautiful though. You know? if you stripped out the beds, and put a kitchen in there and made a counter to fit over your half door..... it would make an AWESOME food/coffee/hawaiian ice... type concession trailer.
If you do it again, go with lighter materials. I know it doesn't seem as sturdy but at least you can tow it without much trouble. Aluminum beams for instance would have saved you quite a bit of weight.
I belong to another RV forum with a lot of Rich types that buy those 40' coaches. They are contently putting ceramic tiles and wood flooring in the things... then wonder why their fuel consumption goes up or their grout gets a big old crack in it. I guess wealth doesn't make you smart. ha! What's worse is folks with an older trailer that want to put wood type flooring right over the top of the old linoleum. I try to warn them away from it but invariably some "Mobile Mansion" driver will say something about how it didn't add that much weight. Oh well.... I'm sure they will live and learn too, eventually.
So will your next one be more like a tear drop trailer?
no we have not weighed it but im sure its right around 1700 - 2000 pounds ... we dont plan to tow as it turned out way heavier then we had ever planned .. if I did it again I would go A LOT smaller ! lol ! but live and learn right.
Comment by Sylvia Ivie yesterday Hey Jay and Maggie: I love all the wood and stained glass. However, I have to wonder how much this Gypsy Wagon weighs? Have you ever had it weighed?
