New RV!

Hey thanks Pat, so far I am loving it. I drove it about 300 miles home and it drove like a charm. Mileage was even ok for a box on wheels. I'll post more and better pics later.

I was told when I bought mine to make sure to have a pro check out the gas lines and tanks - that in ANY rig, no matter how well maintained, that they begin to crack and leak and that one of the major causes of fires in older RVs is the gas lines ...

Nice!! I like it! It looks roomy and if the water damage is minor, you're in good shape eh? What are your plans? Where are you heading with it? Or are you just rehabing it? Tell us more!

Hi David, sorry the MH was trashed. Pat had good advice for you and I'll add my two cents: If you plan on Wintering in a rig, always have a 2nd propane heat source, as furnaces are known to croak at the most inopertune times...I recommend the Oly...

Hi David! What I learned to do is to first pay a $100 bucks and have a mechanic you trust check out the engine (compression check, etc) and Transmission (you said they used it to pull... hopefully didn't pull the guts out of the tranny. Does the t...

David, go to FORUMS and then RV Repair and Maintenance. there you will find and article Winterizing Your Classic RV.

Maybe that will help. On the other hand if you are going to winter camp without heated tanks i've found 2 solutions:
1. Dry camp and use a campgrounds "facilities" for showers and such and a water supply inside your rig... we use 2 gallon plastic containers with pour spouts for cooking and such as water is needed. Some folks also bring along a Porta pottie and put it in the rigs bathroom... kinda tight, but useful for "emergencies".
2 Like you said, build a box with at least 4 inches of foam insulation you spray on your tanks, including the Y valve... which likes to freeze and either creates a gigantic brown plug or cracks the Y valve. Even then you will need to have 3 or 4 gallons of Non toxic rv antifreeze... not too expensive at $3 bucks at autozone and add about 1/3rd antifreeze to your best quess of what's in the tanks. then drain immediately at an rv campground or other facility and flush through with fresh water from your inside jugged water supply to get everything out as best you can. Be sure to add MORE antifreeze right after dumping just in case there is a little water left. Suggest leaving the hot water heater off and bypassed since this doubles the amount of work and the water heater tank often freezes anyway and is way expensive to replace.

Maybe this will help. I hope. pat

David, are the tanks exposed under the class c or are they covered something between them and the road? Would be VERY NICE if they were already enclosed! Also, maybe see my blog post on questions for insulating my tanks in GoodOldRVs blogs.

Hi Mr. Smith. That's not a stupid question. We all had to learn it also. The good news is it's real simple. For the Black water tank just dump in a mixture of warm water and liquid dishwater soap (not too much soap, just normal) with a 1 cup of r...
