New Years Resolution

Well Pat, I didn't really celebrate New Years, but I did finish a project that I had put off for several months!  I posted a while back about going to drain a full black water tank and having the push/pull rod break.  I finally fixed the rod and caulked the slide valve together so it doesn't leak.  A…

Rear View

George (Ms. Toiga and George) had two minor accidents recently due to the poor rear view provisions inherent in most RVs.  Many RVs have rear view cameras now, and the prices have come way down on these, but I wonder if there could be something better?  In the early 1970s there was talk of rear view periscopes!  With the right array, one could have rear viewing comparable to front vision all in one place, instead of drivers, passengers, center, and many times blind spot mirrors.  Has any…

Fuse protection for inverters

I just read where someone paid $200.00 for a 200 Amp fuse between their battery and their inverter.  Look on E Bay under car amplifier circuit breakers.  They can be reset instead of a one time thing and they are listed at under $10.00.  At that price it would be prudent to use them at all battery feeds!

Well, we have a VW Panel 1993, Mexican model (known as combi) and it´s refrigerated by water. We modified it to travel from Mexico to the Patagonia and the major modifications were:

  • Add a rack on the top to transport water, the spare wheel and the tent. We constructed it with the help of our mechanic and it fits perfectly. Also, since it is homemade it was cheaper.
  • We have a bed inside, we bought special foam and fits perfectly for our size.
  • We have a camping kitchen to cook, and several drawers and boxes to keep everything organized, well we try.

We haven´t done many modifications but with it we have already traveled for four months and hopefully it will take us until the south of the continent documenting our experiences.

Right now, we are in Panama City an in few days we are going to cross to Colombia, a difficult and expensive task but no impossible.

We really appreciate what you are doing.
