2nd trip was 81 s to70 w to 68 never again encountered 7% grade for 3 miles places where trucks had mandatory stops

Add to that for me, scared of heights, Live in the mountains of Western MA, Drive down to work every day. Just get nervous when driving highways with a lot of amateurs on the highway. Mountains are the worse they pull over right in front of you  brake pull very close along side ( new truck drivers) without thinking about wind tunnels etc.

Rule of thumb, whatever gear you pull grade in , use same gear or one lower to go down in..retired truck driver

Spoken like true flatlander. Those of us luck enough to have cut our teeth learning to drive in the Rocky Mountains just take it all in stride. No offense meant, just a humorous post to this oldster.
