I'll have another look at the breather as well.

Bit hard to navigate this site.....just replied and it's gone Mmmmm

So, Cheers Rick.

I had a heave on the UJ and pinion yesterday and all felt solid but just realised now that the park brake is on. I'll have another try tomorrow.

I think the axle is a Dana 80, not managed to get any more info of it as yet but seals aren't available from stock in the UK.

Hi Rick, transmission case breathers can be affected too. Mud. Bugs. Or who knows what happened. Thanks for the good advice.

And be sure to check that the differential breather is open and clear, if is clogged that will cause the leak. There are several things that can cause a pinion leak in addition to just a worn seal, bad rear u-joint or pinion bearings are to things to check.

Keep in mind that the rear gear oil also lubes the axle bearings so those seals are going to get destroyed by the brake fluid. That trick works for a quick sale but the seals actually turn mushy so they do not seal for long after that treatment.

Pete, try a trick that I learned many years ago. Changer your rear end oil and add 1/2 cup of DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid. The brake fluid will swell the seal and not hurt anything. It the seal is cracked or broken it will not help. But most likely it is just hard and has shrunk.
