I climbed up on the roof of my 1977 Rockwood today so that I could spray off the roof and see what type of sealant had been used on it. The Antennae is totally covered in black Rubber something and there are some other spots with this black rubber stuff on it I almost wonder if it is flex seal? Not sure why I can't post pictures but I will try and figure it out. Definitely not a metal roof I'm thinking vinyl ? And some kind of white sealant was also used anyways it a mess where do I go from here??

Hi Frances, try to upload the pictures again. When I have this problem I end up having to delete everything I just uploaded, reboot the computer and shut the internet down and restart it. Doesn't happen often, but that is the only way I can get pictures to upload.

From the one picture that loaded it looks like the PO used just whatever to coat the roof. Not a thought out process for sure. I would say to scrape off what you can, use Dicor tape to seal seams, Dicor self leveling caulk for all the screws around vents, etc., then either Dicor Fiberglass Roof Sealant or Dicor EPDM coatings. And yes, I like Dicor products. Fought too many times to waste my time with less expensive stuff that may or may not work. LOL, anyway that is my 2 cents worth.

Hi Russ

Thank you forr replying I like the dicor also. and the Eternabond tape I was going to scrape and put it over the seams and the edges to seal it. hopefully it works I am starting to think the black stuff is black rubber roof coating call Black Jacks and i am so afraid that I am going to tear the roof so I am thinking about scrubbing it and putting eternabond tape over it and just sealing it for now till I can get it some where to do a better job!

I think this might warrant a trip to an RV mechanic to have someone who knows RV roofs look at it and tell you for sure what you have. Who knows at this point what the PO has done to effect the old roof in disastrous ways. Even if the RV place charges you to look at it and give you a plan on how to fix it, it may well be a worth while investment before going forward and spending money only to have to tear it all out for a complete redo of the roof. Just a thought for you to ponder.

Looks like previous owner found a deal at wally world on there roof patch products and just slathered the snot out of everything in sight,,, From the black roof tar to the silver shed roof seal... Shuddering at the job you have before ya,,

Forgot to add,, It might be a rubber membrane  roof...

I truly hope not, that will about make this job impossible.

What would you do? To fix it? Could I just scrub it and put something over it?
Ok, I'm new to this. What is the bubbly stuff?
I'm not sure some kind of black rubber coating tar roof coating I have to figure out how to get it off and repost the roof. I'm also new to this stuff!
I wish you good luck. I think Rich has the right idea though. It will suck going up after the sun has been baking it but should make it easier to scrape off. I sure hope it comes off easily.
