So when we bought the old girl we noticed the back left corner of the roof had a repair. One repair. No big deal right? So we didn't worry much about it.
Well on our last two night jaunt we headed up to the tip of Michigan to a park we love, Wilderness State Park. The problem is that the County roads that lead to it are like s series of mine fields. Even though we kept our speed down so much that every hot shot was passing us, we still noticed that the bottom corner where that repair on the roof is had peeled away about six inches. Luckily I am married to s very experienced and resourceful husband who dug right in on the repairs. He peeled the aluminum back about a third up the enge and is reinforcing and replacing the rotted wood that allowed the seam to open. He is injecting fiberglass and using chopped strand matts and loose fibers to make sure it's better than when it left the factory. Of course we did have to cancel our six night Canada trip and was charged 40% of the camping fee plus $8.50 as a penalty! But such is life! I'm so grateful Paul is willing and able to do the repairs. We just miss the camping! I spoke to the Emmett Country Road Supervisor. He says the roads will be better by 2019!! They have been neglected for years. Not enough fancy houses and tourism up there I guess like down in Petoskey.

Yes Tina. 40% was ridiculous in my opinion considering it was a couple of weeks before the date. And Im sure they re-rented the site easily this time of year. We'll skip visiting Canada now.
Re: the repair with fiberglass. I wanted him to take picture but he didn't want to. I should have. He replaced the iffy wood with new where he could and the wood that seemed fairly solid he covered with the fiberglass mat joined to the new wood.He also drilled holes in the remaining iffy wood and used a syringe to inject the liquid fiberglass into it to strengthen it. Then he drilled new screw holes and used longer screws to make sure they went into good wood deeper. Hard to explain. Should have taken photos.
Wilderness is beautiful but those roads are just horrendous. I wonder how many people experience what we did.

What a shame.  That's a hefty fee to have to cancel the other trip!

I've never heard of chopped strand matts, or injecting fiberglass.  Learn something new every day, eh?  It's google search time.

I guess the positive side is that the former repair was noticed and was checked before it became a huge major issue.

I'll stay away from Wilderness State Park until the roads are better.  LOL
