Frank - it did run cooler when we were running at speed.. but got caught in 3 accident backups so sat idling or just inching along. I would hold back if given space and goose the gas to get the fan faster for short periods which was generally enough to keep it from red lining.

Tina, something not makeing sense Clutch fan lockup should make veh run cooler Not overheat (fan running full speed at all times ) unless the drag caused belt slippage wich would cut down on waterpump operation. Better have them look deeper  Frank

didn't think about the oil but it only ( under 1 min at 3 points in time) touched the edge of the red line... but I will put it on the list.

if it started to overheat even a little with the fan issue be sure to change the oil. glad it was an inexpensive fix!

Speaking of clutch fans the same thing happened to me in Miami Florida last year I thought i had lost transmission when engine startd to roar due to fan noise from fan locking up and turning at engine speed The only good part is the replacement clutch is cheap (in stock at Advance Auto Parts)  Changed the next morning in the back parking lot of the motel in Ft Myers 4 hr job  Frank

Arrived home sunday evening 6:30. Radiator fan clutch went out in Breezewood so we sounded like a turbo prop plane the rest of the ride and she tried to overheat a bit in slow traffic as the fan was then running on engine rpm... ah well always something!

Arrived home in Southwest Missouri about 8pm CDT, 860 miles from Jimco.  Life is good.  Thanks to everyone, let's do it again.
