Event Description

Some of us from various groups are meeting down at Ocean Pond campground, a free boondocking camp, Florida.

When time limits are reached there, we will move a short distance to another free camp and so on for a couple o months.

It will be a "laid back" camp, with all kinds o menus being suggested.  In the past, we have done pig roasts, cast iron demo cooking,  wild mushroom meals, etc..

Anyone down that way is invited to join in what ever festivities that may occur.

R Randall, it is coming up soon, only , we will start out about the 4th of Jan at Cobb scout camp, (free) which is about a mile or so from Ocean Pond paid campground which has showers, etc., I believe the fee there now is $8 for the promitive site and with two, that cuts it down to $4 each.

Yur welcome cuz, hope yu can make it.

That sounds like fun Dick Tracy. You'll have to keep everyone advised where you are during the time your campground  roaming. It's that way out in the Everglades, with time limits on site occupancy.  Thank you for the invitation.

Thanks John, I looked at the links, didn't find what I wanted, but will look some more.

I plan on being at Ocean Pond on the 3rd or fourth.  At least a couple of us will caravan and after stops for convenience of our lil four legged furry buddies, will arrive as soon as posible.  A couple are there now and as the two month gtg wends its way, others will filter in and out depending on their schedules.  I only expect about a half dozen in camp at any one time, but, who knows.  The camp, according to another member that frequents this spot, from Lake City on state 10 east (not US 10) one comes to signs for Ocean Pond and Cobb camp, we will start out at Ocean Pond primitive camp, move to Cobb as time limits out at Ocean Pond.  Hope to see yu John, anytime during the 2 months.   cuzzin dick

Cuzzin, from what I read on a couple websites (see URL Links)  it appears there may indeed be some free dispersed camping in the Osceola Natl Forest, but as the dry sites have such nice clean level paved parking for only 6 bucks (with Senior Pass) I always just stayed there. My times there would be early January or late March early April, if any of you will be there those times let me know as I'm a HUGE fan of free or low cost dry camping and use several Natl Forest or BLM camps in my travels.

Mornin John, I do mean Ocean Pond near Lake City, only, I am referring to the "free" dispersed camp. I've not been there, but, several friends that have and do frequent the camps in that area infer that some of these camps are close to paid camps where one can shower, get water, laundry, etc. for a small fee?, can you verify that?      cuzzin dick

Do you mean Ocean Pond Campground in the Osceola Natl Forest in north Florida near Lake City??? I often stay there on the way down or back from Sebring Florida. You cant beat the price, its like $6.00 for dry camping with the 1/2 price Senior or Access Pass. Nice clean place.
