Heads up to all you Dodge V8 owners. My 1973 360 timing chain fell off the cam gear just south of Toledo in October returning from New York. Needless to say, we were stuck on the side of the road. It took two weeks to repair even with readily available parts. A timing chain is better than a belt of course, no replacement interval one would think. Even loose, a chain will still work.
The issue, is the cam gear that the chain drives has NYLON coated teeth. Supposedly quieter and long lasting. The fallacy in the argument for nylon gear teeth is simply AGE! The teeth did not wear out, they simply cracked due to age. 60,000 miles is not too many to expect from a chain set, but there is a time related issue. Most Chrysler and GM v8's from the 70's and 80's used the nylon coated gears, and the nylon cracked due to age, 45+ years.

There is a process for checking chain "stretch", but I recommend a visual check of the cam gear by removing the mechanical fuel pump and using a fiber optic inspection device to determine if you still have the nylon gear. If it has been replaced you are good to go! If original like mine was, it will fail, sooner than later. It is a lot cheaper to replace the timing chain set now than on the road! Rental car, hotels, etc. all add up not to mention finding a good shop to repair it.
Deer Whistles for your Coach!tag:goodoldrvs.ning.com,2018-05-04:2093474:Topic:3327032018-05-04T14:09:44.143ZDawn Michellehttps://goodoldrvs.ning.com/profile/DawnRobuck
Hi Gang! It just crossed my mind to post this- I wanted to recommend to everyone to consider buying a pair of Deer Alerts (whistles) to install on the front end of your rigs. We've used em for the last 10 years and they truly seem to work! Of course, you can never be too safe while travelling in your motorcoach, so every little bit helps. Just thought I'd post and say HAPPY SPRING, since it looks like it's finally here. Cheers, Chris in Columbus

Because I put my hand on the one and it cracked like a cracker and the other because they just looked terrible. I also took my ladder and the piece of metal that you can tie luggage to on the roof off because they were broken. After 6 days of scraping and wire wheeling and using mineral spirts she was finally down to metal. I rolled on two coats of Hengs rubber sealant for metal roofs and rubber roofs andsje was done just in time no leaks! And I have thenice sound of a Tin roof when it rains! 1972 dodge midas RVtag:goodoldrvs.ning.com,2017-08-25:2093474:Topic:3224082017-08-25T19:36:34.143ZDawn Michellehttps://goodoldrvs.ning.com/profile/DawnRobuck
Just got this baby for $500 with the tow. Can't seem to find a manual online or even from dodge, so I'm going in blind. Was told I needed an 800 cold cranking amp battery for the engine and any rv/boat battery for the inside. Gotta replace the oven and fridge and a.c. unit, then get the internal wiring system looked at. Any advice on cheapest route

Hi everyone,

Not that I have any extra time for more work, :) but since my family wants to vintage camp with me, we just bought a 1976 Dodge Globestar C class motor home. we started some repairs, but I need good advice on how to clean the outside, especially the rubber insert trim. I don't want to use something that will make it brittle and crack. It seems to have some greenish mold in the crevices.
