Sometimes its easier to abandon old wiring harness and start from scratch. You should be able to find the leads from the running lights and test the continuity to the fixture. Once each light is verified working splice the wire connecting the light through your fuse junction and then attach the fuse junction to your power supply ( plug to your tow vehicle) or you can do like I did , took my unit to a Uhaul dealer and let his guys run down the trouble and fix it. Get an estimate of cost…
