My wife and I wanted to try some RVing. While we wanted something dependable, we sure weren't ready to invest the scary prices of late model units. We decided to set some criteria for a used one and update the things needed to get the comfort and dependability we wanted. Some things we looked for....low mileage for it's age.....no pressed board anywhere in the construction....short enough to be very maneuverable....a roof that needed no attention other than caulking....no signs of leaks...plenty of head-room so no ducking needed, lots of visibility of the outdoors while sitting inside. We found all this in the little Mallard. It handles great, has enough ground clearance so there is no dragging or scraping when going over uneven ground. It has absolutely no pressed board anywhere and the fridge worked flawlessly. We purchased it and started our upgrades.... first up was to refurbish the dash air. It required a new pump and drier among other things and the $1500 price tag was a bit sobering, but cold air is a necessity so on we went. Next was a new Dometic Brisk Air II roof-top AC....then a new Winegard Sensar IV TV antenna and new Smart TV.... while I was on the roof , I caulked all the seams up there, the roof is a one-piece aluminum sheet, so unlimited lifespan.... then came a new Ultra Quiet Sureflo water pump....next we swapped out the old microwave for a new LG Smart Inverter unit.... then new faucets in the kitchen and bathroom....we replaced both the chassis and the house batteries simply because we wanted to know their history...then a new hotwater tank with direct spark ignition...on the rear we installed a sewer-hose carrier made for the new hoses with the modern connectors....we also installed a GennyGo cargo carrier on the rear bumper....next we replaced all tank sensors with the new Valterra Horst Miracle Probe sensors in all three holding tanks. It was time to get ready to hit the road so we bought 7 Firestone TransForce HT radial tires and she was all set. We felt good about the fact that like we had hoped, it performed flawlessly during our travels.
