I need to remove the bottom layer of skin in order to replace the 1x12. Before I get started on that I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to. I'm thinking of just removing trim and screws and then propping it up to do the work. I don't know if I need to remove the entire side or the skin. It is the side with the water heater so...? And does that bottom piece of wood have a break or does it run the entire length?

This is the video, it's about half way through when I go outside and crawl under to see damage.

detach the metal at the bottom and sides.  then it should just untuck from the upper piece of metal and drop off.  the metal goes on from the top to the bottom.  then just do the wood repair..

Thank you David! That sounds easy enough. Now I wait for weather. We've had such awesome weather here in sw nm for February but I think it's about to catch up to us...at least for the weekend :-(
I'll keep y'all posted.
