Manny, Manny, Manny, I often don't know what you are asking?  Is there some kind of automatic emergency brake, or are you saying that when you put your automatic transmission in park it doesn't lock the transmission?  I have had a lot of trouble with my RV transmission linkage, and now can't put it in park.  Before I couldn't put it in first gear and damn near got killed because of it!  Now I have to remember to engage the emergency brake when I park somewhere, but that is a lot better than burning out new brakes in 3,000 miles, and removing my seat belt when going down a mountain so I can jump if I have to!  If your problem is the transmission park, then you have a linkage adjustment or design problem.  By design problem, I mean that some coach builders did some strange things, and may have made it difficult to access all of the gears.

While I have you, can you tell us what your wiring problem was, so we might learn something.

richard, it was the wire from the eec to the starter relay. someone changed the wire and had it hooked up wrong. voltage reg was bad also. the  transmission park is not working . horn seems to have a short blows the fuse and gas gauge not working. took it for a ride and runs good. trying to get last things done so i can take it back down south where it is warmer..too cold here in ny..thanks manny

Well Manny, really happy to hear that you have it running!  I don't think that I ever would have found a wiring problem like that; that's one of the reasons that I stick to older vehicles.  As I mentioned, not going into park is most likely a linkage problem.  I had 8 - 10 mechanics tell me that my transmission was going into first gear, and finally convinced one to disconnect the linkage at the tranny and see if there was another gear.  Fifteen minutes later, he crawled out and said, yes, there was a lower gear.  There was a cable set up to activate the linkage, and he was able to adjust it to get first gear at one end or park at the other end, I opted for first gear after burning out my brakes on the mountains of Guatemala!  Check where the horn cable goes into the column ( decided to eliminate the steering wheel horn on my dune buggy, and mounted a button on the dash.  I had my fuel gauge out last week and bent the arm that makes contact with the coil; seems to work fine now.  Be careful on your trip south.

Happy Trails,

RWC
