Tags: Electric Trailer Steps, RV Steps, how to repair RV steps
Hi Keith,
I will try to help, but it was years ago that I had to work on my steps so my memory may be a little fuzzy. The steps being mounted in the middle of the coach are pretty low and therefore subject to damage when driving over uneven ground. The first thing that I would check is the mechanical mechanism of the steps. Disconnect the drive unit and make sure that the steps will easily go in and out by hand, also clean and grease any joints. Next actuate the motor mechanism while it is disconnected and make sure that it works properly. The humming, sounds like the motor trying to do its job, but unable to, due to some problem: dirt, bent linkage, worn motor, etc.
Keep us informed.
Good Luck,
RWC
