Bad thermocouple

Anyone have any suggestions? The thermocouple in my 1964 Nomad Trav'ler wall furnace seems to be bad. It seems to be made combined with pilot jet so just finding the couple won't help unless there's a way to get them apart. The burner won't stay lit. No-one seems to have a clue. It seems, the coupling "could " be taken apart [it seems wedge fit] and a new thermocouple threaded thru and a new coupling into the "control box" could be added to the " dumb end"????? I dunno.... I'm running out of ideas. Anyone ?
