Ok, so I had a mechanic (friend of a friend) check the brakes and he returned it saying the brakes were fine. Except that when I drove it home (about 2 miles) and went to pull in my driveway, the brakes would not stop the vehicle. I did just drive it around the block and tried pumping the brakes, which seemed to help. When it is in park, the brake pedal feels like it has tension in it, though when I drove, my foot went almost all the way to the ground. I'm not sure I could stop short if I had to. BTW the mechanic did not charge me anything! Any suggestions?

Do you happen to know the last time the entire system was completely bled and new brake fluid installed? Another thought is that it may be the master cylinder is losing pressure or is leaking and pressure cannot be maintained. I recommend having it towed to a mechanic shop that works on large trucks and semis. They will have the knowledge, equipment, etc. to check it out properly and make the necessary repairs. As it sits it is not safe to be driving it at all.
pull wheels check linings, adjust rear brakes, pressure bleed system, start at the furthest brake first. If still no brake then replace master cyclinder
