Dodge 440 Starting

While "dewinterizing" my Dodge Monaco, I was cranking the engine for starting. After a few sconds of cranking, I stopped. When I resumed my start attemp, I heard a click, but no starter engagement. There was a brief "electrical odor". On subsequent attemps, even attached a jumper vehicle, just a "click" and no starter engagement.

Any theories or advice would be appreciated.

   Hi Randall,  check your wiring and connections. Dodge used a starter relay. That's the first thing I would look at.

What Jimco said and clean the connections on the starter and battery if the relays not the problem. also you might tap around on the starter Bendix it may just be stuck and a little rap from a hammer may free it up.

sounds like the starter bendix is not engaging the ring gear on the flywheel!

have someone crank the starter and see if it spins the engine or just clicks when starter is engaged
