Just did a successful carb rebuild, which cleared up a stumbling problem. But now I've got an electrical issue -- when the headlights/running lights are on, the right turn signals won't work.

I've checked the bulbs and connections, which seem alright. A friend suggested tracing wires checking for grounds and/or open the steering column. I don't know just how those wires route, but it seems next to impossible to open everything up to find out.

check your grounding connections and the turn signal socket, one of the two is badly corroded and not allowing enough electricity to operate both the headlights and the right turn signal.  If it was both right and left I would definitely say ground problem or bad turn signal relay, but since it is only the right, I bet it is a corroded socket.

Can you tell me, more exactly, just WHERE such "grounding connections" probably would be found?

I cant say sitting here for sure the cause of your problem, but in years of owning motorhomes and trailers a BAD GROUND is often the cause of light problems.

I checked at both front and rear bulbs/sockets, brightening connections. Where would I find ground? A local yacht mechanic immediately went to opening the steering column, but I'd rather not.
