eye hook repair

Our little Aladdin sits beside the house for the winter, works OK except we get a really strong wind occasionally.  The fiberglass window awning has two little screw eyes bolted in, the camper end in just a hook and screw eye stuck into the aluminum.  One side is still holding but the passenger side screw and hook has pulled out and reamed the hole too large to use again.  

 

So, how do I attach something to the trailer that will not pull out?  I was wondering about using pop-rivets to attach a plate to the trailer, maybe use some bedding compound behind the plate to discourage water.  Ideas?

 

For the bedding compound I was thinking of using 3M 5200.  This is a marine compound that does not contain silicone, can be cut and scraped off yet is a strong adhesive.  The best description I have heard is 'it can just about glue grease to an ice cube'.

Hi Bruce.

 

  I am very familiar with 5200.  It is a polyurathane.  If you never ever and I mean NEVER want to remove it  5200 is the best.  If you want to remove it sooommmmeeeday but want the same seal use a polysulfate.  "BoatLife" makes one along with others.  The key here is it must say "sandable paintable.  Polyurathane and silicone are not.  They do not make a paint that will stick to either one.  Hope this helps.  Fair  Winds, Tony, Joy and Cool Paw Luke

I decided to pick up some 4200 instead.  At least this has the possibility of being removed.  Was actually a tough decision since I really liked the adhesive ability of 5200, but I think the 4200 w/ rivets will be strong enough not to pull out.
