ZIP LOCK BAG - Good tip!
We went with friends to Sweety Pies on Sunday for breakfast and sat in the patio section beside the house.   We happened to notice zip lock baggies pinned to a post and a wall.  The bags were half filled with water, each contained 4 pennies, and they were zipped shut.  Naturally we were curious!  Ms. Sweety told us that these baggies kept the flies away!  So naturally we were even more curious!  We actually watched some flies come in the open window, stand around on the window sill, and then fly out again.  And there were no flies in the eating area! Works, but we don't know why. Old Amish trick...

I live on a farm in Missouri so I will give this a try and let you all know how it works.

Yes, please let use know. Much appreciated.     pat

I'm going to try it too! It will be awesome if it works. Wonder if it's any good for hornets and wasps?

I always get those sticky fly hangers that go in like barns and stuff and it works pretty well for inside, but I can't get them away from me when I'm under the awning trying to eat lol. This sounds crazy, but it may be crazy enough to work! I'll try my luck.

Just wondering ... if I use dimes will it work ten times better???

Give it a try! LOL...

Thanks Pat,

A really nice fellow I met at a Georgia BBQ told me about this a couple of years ago.  He said it had something to do with the reflection of the copper in the water and the flies eyes ... multi lens ... it messes with them.   These are the pennies

Bobby, let us all know if this really works. It's definately "different" but we'd all like to retire our fly swatters...

The dimes , since they're silver don't reflect as well, but i 'll let ya know.  Bobby

Flies determine their direction by the direction of light rays., the water in the bags plus pennies or pieces of tin foil cause light refraction, thus the confusion and the fly away.

Now if someone would just figure something like this for the mosquitos here in N. Fla ...

Maybe put the snowbirds near the swamps??
