glastron observation deck

I just posted pics of my Glastron, I am in process of restoring or remodling. I have a complete owners manual that iI will send to anyone for the cost of copies and postage. the manual indicates there was an observation deck on top, does any body have one or know what type of material was used. There are four 3/4in bolts protruding form the roof that i will just bolt a 3/4in sheet of plywood for now. also has anybody "solarized" their motorhome I would like to do this as the gen set for mine is missing.  Thanks for the help and maybe we can figure out how many of these classic are left. I found 7 different ones pictured on  the internet             Ron

Ron: I have a 69 Glastron and it has no sign of any observation deck on top of it. I can tell you that I gutted mine to the fibreglas inside and the steel supports would definitely support a number of folks but the roof is just glass and you will need to put a wood support on top of the rig. Jim

my owners manual indicates there was an observation deck that would supprot the weight of 15 people, there are four bolts protuding from the roof that i assume are attached to the "roll cage" i will use a 3/4" plywood sheeet, i just wonder if any one had an original deck,  thanks for the reply

Ron, I have an owners manual for mine but it does say anything about an observation deck. I put a ladder on mine so I could get up there to clean and work on things. The roof gives a little when I walk on it so you would have to have some kind of deck. I would use a marine grade plywood and coat it with epoxy so water could not penetrate it and then paint it with a non-skid surface or maybe have it "Rhino liner" sprayed. That way it would last a long time.  Gary

To provide a less flexible roof I found that the factory joined the roof to the roll bars with screws about 1' long so I drilled all the way through the roll bars and installed 1/4' bolts with nuts and lock washers in  about a dozen places on the roof. Now the roof is solid! Jim

i posted pics of the mounting bolts protuding from the roof of my glastron, do you have them on yours? page 5-9 of my owners manual states there was a 5ft by 12ft observation/sun deck on top, that would hold the weight of 15 people, made of hardboard.   if it ever stops raining where I live I will continue to investigate my Glastron and get it ready for its first trip.       Ron
