Hi, I took my 1996 Ford Coachmen class a motorhome for a short drive and noticed some fluid splash from the drivers rear wheel drum. I took a picture and attached it to this post. Is this a rear axel seal leak, bearing leak or brake leak? I checked the brak fluid and its fine. I appreciate any advice as I am planning a cross country road trip soon. :)20130316_173754.jpg

Both brake fluid and gear lube have a very distinct smell/feel. From the photo I would say brakes but the true test is a full check out. Either way you will need new brake shoes they are oil soaked now and will never work as they should. Any ??s about brakes has only one answer. Make them like NEW! I recently went through this. Wipe the oil with your finger and smell it. A slight sulpher smell will be diff lube. Do not drive at any speed for any distance even if it's diff lube. I my case upon disassembly, there was evidence of a fire!
thank for your advice. i'll have it towed to a mechanic
that looks like brake fluid. I'd smell, and feel the fluid. brake fluid has a very fine consistency while oil has thick and the smells are totally different.
