Onan 4000w resistor issue

Hello all,

I was having an issue with my Onan, would only run while holding start button...traced the issue to a bad R1 resistor, i replaced the resistor and it ran great for a few hours then stopped...seems to be the same issue and the new resistor looks like it started to melt! Has anyone else had this happen or can tell me what might be burning the resistor like that...maybe the voltage reg?

Had the same problem with a generac  generator traced the schematic and found it was part of the battery charging system. Found the wattage rating of the original resistor and got new ones at digikey.com After soldering in the new ones I wrapped it in a loose fitting heat shrink and that has worked for almost a year.
