We just bought a 1988 Itasca Windcruiser. We have a leak at the rear air conditioner. We're thinking we need to pull the unit out and reinstall sealing itselling it properly. It appears to bete an old unit but still works really well. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Now, the big question....The previous owner painted the roof with something...I could find his receipt to tell you what it is, but don't have it here to look up right now. It has peeled off in a few spots. Is this roof fiberglass? Is it supposed to be painted/sealed? What's your recommendation for products, or process to getting it protected, or where I can find reading material on what we need to do.

Thanks much. Really glad I found you all. Have thoroughly enjoyed browsing.

On the air conditioner you need buy a new seal the ac sits on rubber seal

This involves taking the cover off inside make sure you shut off the power to the ac

There should be four bolts and hooks to hold the ac too the roof you will need to unhook

The wiring takeoffthe four bolts once loose the ac can be lifted the gasket is rubber you can

Get a new one at the rv store  these wear out over time

Thanks! That sounds do-able.

Dianne, can you take some photos of your roof and post them here? That might help ID the material its made of.

I used Henry's roof aluminum paint on my 1959 trailer. First we scraped all loose old stuff off. Next we caulked all seams using roof caulking in gray. Let that dry a day or two. Then "painted" roof. He is dry now!!! I say painted in quotation marks because you really spread it more than paint. If use brush only spread in one direction. If not sure or comfortable being on roof use a piece of plywood two to three feet wide and lay on that. I bought supplies at Home Depot. Cheaper than rv store.
I finally took a few pictures of our roof but don't know where/how to post them. Can you tell me what to do?
Where you put a little bit of words under says photo. Click or touch that and a box opens. Mine says choose existing or take. $62 for my roof recoating, caulked around ac vents too
Sorry on page that says home upper left hand corner
Forgot a part. Your a c unit should have a cover so you Dont have take a c off. Mine unscrews. The trailer store has some flat caulk tape in a roll I used and caulk in gun. I recoated the cover with flex seal and roof paint.
We have the new seal for the air conditioner. But can you tell if this is a fiberglass roof? If you can see in the picture by the air shroud, whatever it's been painted with is peeling off. Does it need to be cleaned off and repainted? Or is this the correct method for this type of roof?

And by the way, it was sprinkling so it is wet, it's not just shiny.
The part that covers the a c may be part fiberglass. Some call it a shroud(?) mine is a little "peely/shredded" so I flex plastic coat painted it to seal it, then roof paint. I lightly sanded the cover first.

We scraped, with paint scraper anything on roof loose. Swept well. Then caulked all seams, around a c and roof vents. At that point interior stayed dry, lots rain here. Then I put the Henry's aluminum roof paint on last. Paint is thick, you almost spread it with a roofing tool on stck. If use brush only brush stroke in one direction. Why? Don't know. Someone else on this page told me better results

Looks like someone used a white roof coating on it.Now thats its there you are kinda stuck with it.I would scrape and clean it and just reapply a similar product.
