Scary rv stove experiance!

We have a traveler gourmet oven. With the oven on top, and stove on bottom. Today we discovered that when you push on a knob it releases a surge of gas, now this only happens when you push on it, not when you just turn it on. No idea why this would happen. But the result was a burst of flames on the stove top! I read that the oven on top model had problems with gas build up, and when someone would open it with stove lit or other flame it would send a fireball through the rv. One of the more famos, or infamous rather was a man who had a ciggarette in his mouth, and he recieved burns on 60% of his body dieing 3 days later from his injuries. Does anyone know why tthe oven would surge gas when a knob was pushed down? Is there anyway to safely opporate this model oven? Any advice or knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated.

Stoves do that just like the pilot setting on all gas stoves, BBQ grills, etc.   As I understand it, that burst ensures there is an overpressure at the burner so spark/fire doesn’t travel back, into the gas line.  Look at your gas grill knobs.

Don’t forget that propane gas is 1.56 times heavier than air, so it settles (puddles). You might have a leaking valve so have a certified trchnician check it out.
