We headed out to the Biloxi area in Mississippi for Memorial day weekend and decided to stay away from the coast at first because of the forecasted tropical storm. Our first nights stay had a twenty year rule that was waived for our new looking 45 year old trailer. In our twenty years of pulling our trailer all over the east coast, midwest and southwest we've encountered the rule numerous times but have yet to been refused a site. This past trip the manager gave me the best "excuse" for the rule that I've heard to date. She claimed that the state had regulations requiring the rule because older units don't meet newer codes on sewer, electric, or gas. My trailer has been fully refitted but every thing that we replaced worked just as well as the replacement part other than the gfi plugs on wet circuts. We have stayed on the Mississippi coast MANY times and have not encountered the rule at any other campgrounds so I call BS.

The point of the rule is to keep the riff raff away but the vintage trailer segment is making many campgrounds rethink the rule. When making reservations at several different campgrounds I've been asked to provide a picture of my rig by email or text. It doesn't bother me to do so because I'm proud of my trailer, as are most owners of vintage rvs that ive met. There really is a need for more vintage trailer/rv clubs. Once there are more clubs the rallies and shows will spread and the acceptance of vintage units will grow.

That State is really pushing the limit on personal choice and freedom. How ironic that they say you can't discriminate against anyone for just about any reason but the age of your RV or camper. Ah, the snobbish tendencies are hard to break....

I've got a 31 year old rig but since it's in good shape and we behave I have not been turned away. I've gotten a lot of rubber-neckers in the campground but nothing bad. I'm usually the oldest RV in the place.

Your call, but I disagree. We camp from the Pacific to the Keys. I see 40+ footers and Class As/5th wheels on both sides of RPODS and popups. Even some vintage campers, but not that many. Separating people gets in the way of meeting and experiencing others. Learned that all too well campinjg in Europe, Scandinavia, England, Scotland, etc. Made some good friends along the way. I find that if I go out of my way to “meet and greet”, I benefit more than anyone else. This last winter I met folks who were stationed in the 8th Infantry Division when I was on my fortst tour; and a couple who were in their very first camper: a 42 foot Montana.
Partly OK. Many of the big rigs, like our real camper (2018 Keystone Montana High Country 310re) is merelyh olur home for winter trips and to stay while visiting our grandkids. Most folks in the bigger rigs aren’t the country club group you mention. They are usually older, winter Texans/Floridians and fulltimers. A small, vintage camper is fine, but not for 4-5 months at a stretch, and not to live in fujlltiming. You hardly ever see anyone outside. Yep, it’s not “camping” per se, but…

Yep, it’s not “camping” per se, but 70-80 year olds don’t camp. Camping, to an old soldier, is is a 2 quart canteen; some MREs; rolled up in a blanket (if you have one) and poncho. Wanna “camp”? Don’t think so. The nice thing ab ouit camping and vintage trailering is the people you meet in person or on these pages; the worst thing about camping and trailering is the the people you meet in person or on these pages. We can “look down” on people whether we have a McMansion or popup. It’s only by going out to other campers and meeting the individuals we can get a feel for who and what they are. Just a thought.
If I pull my vintage camper with my vintage truck; I'd be right up there moneywise with the hmmmm best of ;'em....I still want to go South for the winter/spring but will probably be checking out the Parker, AZ area....Surely, they still accept rifraf like they did in the good o'd days so I should feel right at home there. State Parks, Core of Eng'r's around here are wonderful....so will be content until the snow flies.
