As we are getting started on renovating our 1960s Maronette Travel Trailer, we are wondering if the tiles used in the campers back then contain asbestos. We were originally just tile over the top of the original, but there are many that are cracked, broken, or deteriorating and before we start taking them out we were wondering about the possibility of asbestos in the tiles.
Hello Gary and Margaret, I"m of the understanding that the older floor tiles was an asphalt material but it certainly is a possibility asbestos could be in there given the era of manufacturing. I would think you could pull a sample and possibly take it to your county extension office or maybe a local university lab. hope this is of some help and I'm sorry I can't answer the question directly.
We did pull a sample and are going to take it in, we are hoping it is not asbestos but are expecting it is.
