Hi all i have a 1985 chief and was wondering if i can add a roof vent anywhere i want in the roof? i am replacing my rear roof air with a fantastic fan but i want to add a roof vent around the kitchen area . can i just cut it out or do i need to frame it in or could it be framed in already ? thanks Ron...

You need to be very careful where you cut! If you cut something substantial, you will compromise the integrity of the framing and end up with a sagging roof and leaks! I don't know about the newer Winnies, but my older one had metal framing in the roof. First, from the inside, on the ceiling, I would try locating any metal in the area where you would like to have the vent with a strong magnet. Possibly use masking tape to remember where the metal is located. If the magnet doesn't work, try a stud locator (available at Lowe's etc.). Usually you will find framing going from side to side: if you are lucky, you may find a preframed vent location. Once you determine where you will cut, carefully (possibly a hole saw, or utility knife) cut a small observation hole in the middle of your layout and make sure that there are no wires or other obstructions in the way.
Good Luck,
RWC
thanks Richard, that sounds good . its hard to believe there wasen,t one there yet Thanks Ron......
I think that the foreword vent opening on this model is used for the front roof A/C.That may be all there is up front from the factory.
