The vacuum gauge is your friend.... it tells you if you're carb, timing advance and other essential engine bits are getting the right signal from the engine. If it's not showing around 14-17 inches during warm up idle you have a leak that will cause all sorts of rough and poor performance when driving.

Comment by A.L. waddell   would someone happen to know what the vacuum gauge on the dash of my 79 winnebago is for precisely ....

Hey A.L., sounds like a frozen advance in the distributer. Check the vac advance in the dist.

My 79 brave got a new edel carb when the orig went so. without me...fuel pressure trouble calls for a split filter.wondering if b4 the pump and is return reg.(thanks for all previous help)

Comment by Jack Wasmuth

Hey A.L. I was a carb. rebuilder for over 40 yrs. Your carb only needs 6 lbs of pressure under full throttle. Putting the filter between the pump and carb helps reduce the pulse from the pump. This keeps the float from bouncing. Just one in line metal filter. If you are using a mechanical fuel pump, most do not need a return line but some do. My 1976 Dodge mh with a 360 had a return line to the tank FROM THE FILTER. Hope this helps.
