Look at the Whale Seaward S1100... It's what I bought to replace the old Suburban in our motorhome. It holds 11 gallons, runs off of 110 electric AND it has the heat exchanger that circulates hot water from the radiator around the water heaters tank, when your rv's engine is running. BY THE WAY, have your mechanic look for a couple of Y bypass valves on some heater hose running rearward... That's how the water from the radiator gets to the water heater's heat exchanger.
Ever find out how it worked? Probably worked using a water control valve that worked from a lever / switch that let the engine water go through a hot water heater hose (just like heater cores work) to probably a coil that surrounded the hot water tank.
