I'm thinking I can cut it out of 1/4" plywood, and paint it and seal it real good.

I'm betting you can find that sort of stuff around thrift stores and antique mall type place's. Old bed rails, picture frames, wrought iron grates and the old screen door scroll work may be some of the things you can find there.

That's doable Diane, but it's costly just for the buffing materials not to mention the man hours but, I agree it's beautiful.
