Mara, unless you had a BIG leak it will not hurt to try the brake fluid trick. Brake fluid will NOT hurt your transmission. It is a quick fix for a small problem. If the brake fluid trick works then you need what is called a small prtsa kit along with a filter and fluid change.
You problem sounds like what is known as "Morning Sickness". Until the fluid gets hot and the seals swell it won't move.
I have been doing this trick for over 30 years. BUT it is worth a try.
