Keith, sorry I don't know what a pocket tool is at least by that name?  My idea would be to cut all the rotten wood out and peel the sheet tin back so you can remake and splice in new wood.  On the outside of that rotten wood you will find staples nailing the tin at the seams behind the edge trim.  Remove the edge trim and you will see them.  At least on this side you will want to remove the edge trim and reseal under it after you get the new wood in.  On here check out "Larry Pace Arrow roof repair". or look at my pics.  I had to remove everything except the steel frame with new sheet metal and coated the whole roof with sealer.
