Woo Hoo! I made it through my first full winter in my RV! It was debatable a few times but I persevered. I learned so much and most of it was from this website. This is definitely my go to spot for info.

Picked up some water leaks moving over here but thanks to Matt M posting about his leaks, mine were a piece of cake to fix...except the toilet. Unfortunately it seems to be in the flushing pedal!

Cabin fever sat in pretty good a couple of times but thank goodness for the internet and my love for reading. Really want a bigger RV now. One that has bed I can walk around to make and more storage. Not sure if I want a bumper pull or 5th wheel. Just looking now and they both have things I like so am open to others preferences/drawbacks. I still want to keep George for short outings. Would love to get him into a shop and give him some TLC!

Hope all made it through the winter. OH, would like to hear from Workampers too. I get the RMP listings when the are available but would like to get some first hand stories.

Then my brother-in-law fell off a trailer and broke his neck so headed to Washington State to help out as the hospital they air-flighted him to was an hour and a half from their home. He had an angel watching over him that day. He was in surgery approx. 14 hours but came through with flying colors. No paralysis and is doing physical therapy and whatever else he thinks he can get away with (think my sister has eyes in the back of her head!)

After I returned to Idaho, spent a few days in the Boise VA Hospital due to a service related injury and have to go back in January for surgery. At the RV Park, I was way down at one of the ends and while in the hospital, had quite a few parts that relocated themselves to another RV. I have never stolen a thing in my life and can't even comprehend what drives a person to do such a despicable act. It wasn't the reflectors, sewer hose or the other little things that bothered me so much as the leaf spring U-Bolt and nuts did. If I had not noticed they were missing and drove somewhere, couldn't I have lost my axle? I can't stop thinking about what would/could have happened to George and I!
Lessons Learned The Hard Way - Part 3tag:goodoldrvs.ning.com,2013-10-08:2093474:BlogPost:1829192013-10-08T09:26:27.000ZJackie Berghttps://goodoldrvs.ning.com/profile/JackieBerg

Have been biting at the bit to get online but at the Caldwell ID RV Park if you aren't within spitting distance of the office, you won't pick it up!

It's been over a month since I blogged Part 2. I think the last month has been the worst so far. My camera got stolen so there went all the pics I had taken. Didn't even care about the camera, just wanted the photos. Then came the rain and more rain...then the leaks started and the ceiling above the bed came down. I must have spent over two weeks up on that roof. Learned 2 very important lessons...DO NOT sit down on a hot roof with shorts on and the caulking does not need to look like a freshly iced cake. Did get a couple of windows tinted and that helped a lot when the air conditioner quit working. Leaks are now fixed, air is working again and all the storage/vents/lights have been redone or replaced. Received a whole bunch of advice and had my ideas of the way to fix things pooh-poohed. No offer of help but those guys kept coming back to see my work and pretty soon they didn't have to many comments/jokes to say! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT POSTS ON GOOD OLD RV's!

Had quite a few nights when I was so sore and crying that I had had enough. George was going up for sale! Then I would get up in the morning and look at all I had accomplished the day before and would fall in love with this ole RV again. Still not sure full timing is for me but am hanging in there so far. Think I'm so stubborn and no offense to all guys but some of the attitudes I got about a woman fixing the things I did made me irritated to the point that now I refuse to give up. Happy Trails to All!
Lesson Learned The HARD Way - Part 2tag:goodoldrvs.ning.com,2013-08-23:2093474:BlogPost:1759802013-08-23T10:27:29.000ZJackie Berghttps://goodoldrvs.ning.com/profile/JackieBerg

Well, as promised in my first blog, George is getting a lot of attention. Am set up at Caldwell RV Park, Caldwell ID. I usually dry camp so am getting really spoiled being plugged in. Everything works...air conditioner, cable TV etc! Suppose to get Internet but if you aren't within spitting distance of the office, you can forget it.

Am really tossing around the idea of becoming a Fulltimer and realized that you need a whole lot more storage space than there is. Up in the bed area, I built shelves at one end for my clothes, took down the ugly curtains on the front cab window, tinted it and then hung cargo netting across it for shoes, extra blankets and whatever else wouldn't fit in the closest. It actually opened it up so it looks almost twice the size. Not a lot of counter area in the kitchen so am struggling with what to do about microwave. Any suggestions? Also removed the broke, plastic shower door and think I'll just put a shower curtain up.

Outside is where it is happening. New rear brakes, any electrical connectors are being checked and new wire exposed with new connectors added. Am going to have it undercoated along with the doghouse insulated. Would like to get to a salvage yard and see about getting some clearance lights and mirrors. When I try to get the lenses off, the base is so old and dry rotted that they just seem to crumble, the connections are rusted and there must be at least a half inch of dirt in them. All the access doors are being resealed, weather stripping added and every nook and cranny vaccumed. Want a new paint job but that will probably have to wait til spring. Don't like where the ladder to roof is located as it is right in front of my right side tail lights but have no idea yet what to do there.

Some things have to wait until I get out of the RV Park such as changing some gaskets, the shocks and u joints.

Have been taking a lot of pics and will get them posted soon. Happy Travels To All
Lesson learned the HARD way!tag:goodoldrvs.ning.com,2013-07-29:2093474:BlogPost:1703972013-07-29T16:18:25.000ZJackie Berghttps://goodoldrvs.ning.com/profile/JackieBerg

I bought my "Golden Oldie" George just a little over a year ago and caught a bad case of wanderlust. Did a lot of nothing but drove it like I stole it until the tires fell off. Now a person would think that after being a mechanic in the Army for 13 years and a long haul trucker, school bus driver and city transit driver that I would know (and practice) the importance of good maintenance. NOT!!!

NOT!!!

My trip from CA to ID turned into a living nightmare in less than 10 miles. Tires started blowing out, discovered my bottle jack and lug wrench were gone, charging system failed, weather in the triple digits yadda, yadda, yadda! 24 hours later help arrived and I limped George with the car and tow dolly back to Charlie's Auto Repair in Hesperia. Decided to leave George there so loaded the car and headed out. Made it to Ridgecrest a mere 100 miles and blew the timing belt and it melted all in the cams. 112 degrees, no cell service and not a person would stop. Finally a CHP came and unfortunately I was very "gritchy" and so was my dog, Jasmine. While I was getting some things out of the car, the nice, kind CHP Officer decided to stick his hand in the car window and you can figure out what happened then. He promptly told me if she bit him again, he would have to shoot her.

Anyway, to make a horribly long story less painful, suffice it to say that George, Jasmine and I did make it to Boise ok even though it took 11 days.

I promised George if he would just please hang in there for 781 miles that I would never treat him so bad again and would take such good care of him, he would think there was a tiger in his tank.

I have already started keeping my word and George has new tires and a new rebuilt carb. The old one fell apart as soon as the carb cleaner started working. :( Charging system is working also.

I want to thank GORV's and all you great people that share your knowledge and time. I read the forums all the time (should have absorbed them and used them) at least once and some two, three and four times. So far everything except mounting the tires, I have done myself simply from the forums and the little details (Murphy) you add. Thanx
