SWEET SUMMER BUT TOO SHORT

We brought the Bounder home after a couple months of free parking on friends' ranch in Unaweep Canyon near Gateway CO., Heaven on earth! We're relative newcomers to boondocking and were fortunate enough to have very generous friends with their tractor with brush hog and loader. We mowed the existing old road that runs through their ranch and took a chainsaw to the overhanging oak brush, then cut a new road down through the brush and trees to the creek where we dug out a trench to level the…

The refit cont.

Well I got the picture posted but the description etc got a little lost. This is a 1988 Islander class B they were made in British Columbia but long gone now . Originally it had a 460 ci engine but I replaced it with a custom built 300 6cyl and a c6 trans . After a few years I sold it to a friend  who ran it for a couple of years and died. He willed it back to me a bit worse for wear . The picture is from when I had it . Will try and update the picture tomorrow . Today I put it in my shop to…

Progress!

Finally, we have the rear wall skin removed and are beginning the rebuild...its getting chilly here at nite and we have had a few hail storms. sleeping in the car is getting a little tiring and I miss being out at the Ranch. I really like being outside and comfy... hanging around someone else's place to get work done sucks and its part of the process this time.

I sure hope I can get you all some photos at some point. this is going to be a kewl trailer when I get it…

Swinger remodel project

We recently acquired a 1978 Swinger Georgie-Boy motorhome.  Think we are going to love it simply because of the convenience of not having to figure out where the dogs will fit in a camper and being able to drive to our location and not as much set up as a camper.  Anyway, this winter we plan to try and do some remodeling.

We are very NEW at motorhome life for our first concern is the weight distribution.  We would like to move the refridgerator to the opposite side of the…

Latest news

I'm sorry to say that on Sept. 28, 2015 Lura, my better half for over 41yrs, lost her battle against cancer. She never did get to make a trip in her motor home because she was just too sick during the last few months and had to be in for treatments every week. She did go out and sit in it a couple of times and made plans for the trip to visit family. Today we are going to take her ashes up to the mountains in her motor home. Do some fishing and then we'll put her to rest. Definitely not the…

73 Dodge Chinook 2500

Just picked up this 73 Chinook 2500. I am not finding much information on them anywhere Any tips would be appreciated. It's in pretty complete shape other than the missing genset and medicine cabinet. Want to keep it fairly original. Looking for information on sourcing windshield and front and back window rubbers. Picture of medicine cabinet would be helpful to try to match…

Cont. Getting out

On the previous post you saw the simple framing system , the building of half the boot jump as I wanted it to be able to use as a single or a double and a by product of getting older is getting weaker so 2 pieces it will be . You can see the bed platform hinged out  and the plywood has been quickly sanded and clear coated to prevent staining and slivers . The next pictures will show the next section which is storage and you will notice the open back where the potty is stored. A picture of…

Cont. Getting out

It seems this will take a few posts as I learn the blog system.                                                                   Pulling the van home the first thing was to double check the fuel system and change the fuel pump .I had never changed an electric fuel pump prior to this , bought a used repair manual and did it . Once running I inspected the complete vehicle to see if it would be the one ,and it was . A very thorough cleaning was next in and out afterwards it started looking…

Of Course Getting out camping and traveling can be affordable

This post will relive a project of making a camper van for under $1000. As with all of my projects the intent is to show you can do it and not brake the bank. The first requirement is to find a vehicle worthy of the effort . I look for a privately owned vehicle with maintenance records requiring a repair . The vehicle I found was a 1995 dodge caravan, only 2 owners and both used the same repair shop and they showed me all the repairs and maintenance since new . The seller couldn't get it to…

What The heck Why Not

It seems as I get older it becomes more important to do many projects because I want to there are no has to's just because I feel like it . I hope to bring some of these projects out in this  forum Blog. Seven Years ago I was very ill and to keep occupied I built a small travel trailer. At first I could only work a few minutes at a time but slowly I became stronger worked more and healed myself. I finished the trailer ,and later burnt it as it was a pile of junk. But I built 8 more only…

Movin movin movin...

I dont know if i can add pictures here so will send into my photo page... the KC made a 30ish mile trip into the nearest town for some assistance. Of cource people who offer to help for only gas money dont always show up when they say. I am not ready to tow the KC until more work is done, i just get too nervous for unfounded reasons. I was sort of expecting a truck to come Monday at 8 am. He actually came at 9 pm last nite (Wed)...and a bit unprepared - did you know that i live off-grid,… Continue

Finally - after shoveling out sand and crap from the desert...my rescued 1959 Kencraft TT will be moving into town for some real help...my auto mechanic pals are letting me put her in the back lot where we can have easier access to tools, supplies and guys who tinker!

I have yet to sell my camperized 1994 Classic Chevy Van - lovingly refered to as Vantucket. If anyone is interested im lowering the price to $2600..she needs to be on the road and is ready to rock n roll!
