My new (old) RV

I'm new to RVing although I have been planning/wishing to do this for years now. On impulse I took the plunge and bought this wonderful 'lady' a 1977 Vanguard Sportsman. She's in wonderful condition considering her age, although she does have a problem common to her age and make....the truck motor will not charge the battery. I have 2 friends, both mechanics, who are checking this out, as well as everything else, to make sure she is road worthy for me. It seems the alternator is fine, so now…

Dodge AVCO 1973 M400

Well here we are we sold our classic cars (1959 Rambler Ambassador Cross Country and 1957 Ford F-100) back in California, so since we did not have any projects anymore decided to purchase another car, while looking we found and interesting ad for a 1973 AVCO MH, it was about 2 hours away from us so we decided to take a look over the weekend if it had not sold by then. Lucky for us the MH was still there and we fell in love with it, it is all original and almost everything works, we purchased…

Our solar system set up

Since I am on the road (not in the motorhome) I can not add photos directly to this blog but I wanted to give and overview of our solar system.

Excerpt from my blog:

"Today my better half installed the 2 solar panels on Myrtle's roof, which give us 190 watts of free, clean power from the sun. The Carmanah 95 watt solar panels are hooked up to the Magna-sine sinewave inverter and the bank of two 6-volt US Battery brand batteries and it all works! We used a Go Power solar regulator and… Continue

Myrtle's meanderings...

Myrtle made it to her first car show, which was just for vintage RV's. There were about 13 units at the show. It was mostly trailers; including a few airstreams and shastas. As well there were two vintage bus conversions. Myrtle was the only motorhome! Many people toured Myrtle and complimented her vintage interior. We are hopeful to attend some more car shows in the future.

Waterton Lakes National Park and enjoyed two…

1975 dodge beaver restoration

We have our first rv! She is a 1975 dodge beaver. We love her. We are Dustin, Carrie, Lydia, and Gavin. We bought it saturday it overheated on the hour and a half drive home. We just kept stopping and filling it back up with water. There was absolutly no coolant. She made it home! So we will get to her engine later there might be a few issues there. But totally fixable! We pulled out the carpet and found remnants of the lovely original shag carpet and avacado colored linoluim. Dustin started… Continue

Mirrors & Music

We installed new side view mirrors. They are convex mirrors from Traction (the Heavy Truck Division of Napa). They provide much better visibility than the previous small mirrors. We also found an antenna that finally fit, also from Traction. So now we can both… Continue

Maiden Voyage

We took Myrtle out for her maiden voyage; camping at a provincial park 250 kms away. She made the round trip journey easily! She was terrific to camp in and drew a lot of attention from people passing by. Her solar power and plumbing was terrific. Her fridge and stove are not yet hooked up but that's next on the list.… Continue

new 318 poly exhaust manifold

As luck would have it, I was talking (whining) about trying to repair or find a replacement 318 poly exhaust manifold at a local parts store, and one of the staff mentioned having a 1965 318 at home. He called the next day with the manifold removed and we bought it for $60.00. It lines up with the old manifold and should hopefully be a good fit. From the photos you can see the new and old… Continue
