More progress on my custom van

Yesterday worked out well I got the plywood in covering the bed area and finished up the ceiling panels plus added both partitions and finished up paneling one wall in the bed area. Hopefully I can finish up the opposite wall today.

Cabinet for my custom van project

I said I would share some pix of the cabinet I made for my custom van project. The trim work is all rough strips of wood used to get walls ready for paneling I think they are called "Fairing strips"n and luan panels

Each piece was Burnt with a propane torch then stained and sanded and then assembled,

I also cut a piece of Plexiglas for the top to protect it from moisture from sweaty canned drinks-etc.

I love the look of old distressed wood ad this fits nicely with the…

Still at it on my Dodge custom van

Okay finally got the foil backed foam core insulation in the ceiling-it was rough going when the temperature was in the low 20's and it was sleeting. Had to take a few breaks to get my hands warm.

Found a novel idea for my doors that go in front of the bed partition ! I had a set of cast aluminum wall sconces that looked like old wrought iron. I gut of the stem that holds the candle holder- ground down the tabs on the back and center drilled them. I will find a pair of brass or…

Attention to details....

I may have mentioned that I was building a storage box/ center console for my Van project. I happened along this old wooden toy box that was the perfect size to fit between my seats. The box itself was trash and pretty beat up with gobbs of hot melt glue in all of the joints because it was falling apart.

I took the box apart and scraped and sanded the glue off of it. Stripped the shelac- sanded it then took my propane torch to it to bring up the grain in the wood then put it all back…

More work on the custom van

After a point you have to start designing the interior. These wall partitions will provide some privacy as well as aesthetics to the inside of the van.

Started by making cardboard templates of the wall curvature then cut the OSB . Did a trial fit to make sure they will line up correctly and shimmed as needed. Did the right side the same way. Oddly you would think that the shape pf the wall would be the same but they are not!

This is the left side partition it goes from the roof…

More of the Custom Dodge van

I have been working on the doors that will go over the front of the bed partition. I used 1/4 inch OSB and then cut and pieced 1/8 inch hardwood pieces with the grain going at right angles then used tiny brass nails in the corners for an accent. Got them stained and sealed with gloss varnish. Also added a second coat of varnish to my homemade cup holder too. Still have to trim the edges of the doors-add hardware and hinges. I also burnt the wood a bit to bring up the grain for…

My custom Dodge van Project

Wow what a cold day here yesterday but finally got the walls covered in OSB Plywood. Got the front and middle bed partitions in too. Had to use a jack to bend the plywood into shape so I could drill and screw them into place. Hands got so numb that I could not pick up a screw! This has to be a labor of love. No sane person would be doing this on such a cold and windy day
