A Deputy Sherriff who does Vehicle/Trailer Vin checks and inspections of homebuilt and vintage older trailers, says, that a VIN number on all bumper pull trailers are located on the INSIDE portion of the trailer tongue,Usually Midway between the coupling and tongue mount.. A little elbow grease and fine sand paper, wire brush,, you can remove all the road crud, rust etc, to acess the numbers,, 99% are stamped in,, Not raised letters, so they do get filled in easily with crud. They are usually stamped on the right side of the tongue,(drivers side).
if you search vintage materials, you can find a lot of 50s and 60s stuff, really a gas....ours has a galley in a weird spot, saw some really nice oldies at an auction yesterday.
I was having the same problems since, I thought ours had two sets of numbers, used vinegar and wd40, I also have a few numbers ground off, so I am consulting a old police forensic dude from Chicago,to find the acid they use to uncover old serial numbers on guns. Then, I might be able to tell really what I have also. what did you do after did you get Tenn. to give the title to you?
I own a 1967 Tennessee Volunteer 16 ft. I found my VIN on right side of the trailer hitch about midway from the hitch ball to the trailer. Buried under layers of paint. Very carefully removed paint using very fine sandpaper. Was very clear to read after paint removed. Good Luck.
