Lake Texoma Oklahoma Caney Creek Campground Fishing Camp

We just got back from a great 5 day trip to Lake Texoma's Caney Creek Campground on the border of Texas and Oklahoma. Nothing but great things to say about the campground and the clear refreshing waters of the lake. The weather, however, was SOMETHING ELSE! Blew like snot for 5 days straight with winds 20 plus mph. Not great for fishing. Fortunately, the 54 space campground is nestled right on the lake in a cove with good wind protection, boat ramp and even a dock for fishng and boarding your boat... which really helps in 3 foot waves!!

We fished every day with our good friends Jim and Lynn, photos attached, of the "Mr & Mr's Downrigger", John and their dog Maggie.

A wet, warm and great trip anyway. And, Jim did get us into a few fish in spite of the weather.
We'll go again and do recommend this Oklahoma state park campground and it's excellent hosts.

Now, to dust off the 5 wt fly rods for Colorado!! Hmmm, where'd I put those prince nymphs??

Well, we're off on another adventure. This week we will be on the boarder of Texas and Oklahoma in our good old rv striper and bass fishing with our good friends Jim & Lynn and, of course, our dog lady.

Most of Oklahoma's state rv parks offer excellent facitlites, well cared for sites, boat ramps and play areas for the kids and grandkids. Caney Creek Campground where we are staying is one of them. It's nestled in a cover overlooking the north shore of 48,000 acre Lake Texoma, on the Oklahoma side. Lake Texoma is noted as the striped bass capital of the US thanks to stocking efforts 20 years ago by the department of fish and game. Ocean stripers took in a big way due to the slight salt content of the lake, rivers to spawn in and huge schools of bait fish. We hope to catch a few and grill them over the campfire.

You can find out more about the general area at this lake link and then book through Oklahoma's state park online system:

We'll update you when we get back.
