Every Problem has a source.....and a solution

I found the reason that the cabover damage was so extensive and mainly in the corners of the front. The ceiling is dry, the windows are dry...but those bottom corners...what a mess! Both sides of the outside has buckled seals right at the bottom curve. The water was running right down into them and staying trapped there. Rusted screws and seepage was inevitable. I pulled it out, and will get some new sealing strips, install new screws and silicone around them.
Not sure what those strips are called or where to get them?

Dang this thing is dirty! LOL

So, the inside...I got to thinking. I might just cut a slice out of each end of that "floor" up there and from the front of it. Lay out some new 2x2's where the old ones are rotted halfway of their length, and then secure some new wood "floor" in there where I had to cut sections out.
Whatcha' think ya'll? Taking that whole thing out is really going to be a problem, and because it is 90% in good shape...I think I can leave it by cutting out the bad stuff.

When I removed screws that were rusted so much there were no teeth left. I used a pair of 10" vice grips and pulled them out. Then I went with a self tapping screws that was bigger than the hole. If I remember right they were #10s. Worked great. It was big enough that the screws were able to tighten up. I filled each hole with non-sagging Dicor for added measure. I am a firm believer in Dicor and Eternabond products for sealing RVs.

Well, those screws are not coming out of there.  They are too rusted, trying to turn them actually strips them.  Because of where they are, I think it's best to leave them be and just be sure to put lots of silicone around them to seal them up tight. I did some cleaning up of them with a wire brush to get some of the rust removed. Running a new sealer strip is going to take care of the water issue anyway.

After looking inside, I don't think I will need to try to remove them in order to repair the "floor" of the cabover.  I'll look this over more tomorrow.  I took two more dust pans full of black "dirt"  out a while ago.  I'm done for the night.  Neck and back are screaming.  LOL

Looks like the weather forecast here has changed for the weekend, only 20% chance of rain both days.  YEY!  Good dry out time is sorely needed on this diggity dodge.

I got some 2x2x8's yesterday and a couple of 2x4's along with some cans of "Great Stuff" and decking screws. Completely forgot the silicone and liquid nails!   I went to take the lumber out thinking this new thing with cabover damage, I should have bought one more 2x2x8 for good measure....lo and behold I was gifted one more than I bought by the loader dude.  Thanks Dude!  (I think they came in strap bundles of 9 and he just didn't want to unstrap the bundle. LOL)
