Glad to hear you have a fix in! Doing my latest Allegro rig once the bits come in for the fronts. Hoping for some warmer weather do it. It snowed a bit this am as well.

Did not mention tight clutch pack clearances (0.35) with no wave plates are the ticket in a motor home. Shifts are strong and quick with no bump, slam or hesitation.

NEW HOSES SOLVED THE PROBLEM!!

Comment by Don Olson on April 18, 2020 at 2:12am

So nice ti find how True the comments about old brake lines were!

If your vehicle is over 10 years old and/or you have issues with the calipers not releasing.

, REPLACE THE FLEXIBLE HOSES!!!

Comment by Don Olson on April 12, 2020 at 11:29pm

Took it out again today after finding out that the previous owner replaced the passenger caliper without including the copper sealing washers, DOH! There was no hydraulic pressure on that brake.

Now that the system is sealed and bled properly, BOTH calipers work but don't release!

Will provide update after replacing flex hoses.

Just did some research. Looks like the flex lines have a habit of "valving" when they get old.

Calipers are brand new, and releasing the bleeder valve frees up the rotor.

Looks like another classic case of hose failure.

Glad this info was online. I might have spend ???? figuring the problem out.

New hoses on order.

At least it weren't the tranny. Calipers are a bit easier to deal with than transmissions so this should be a snap. Often wondered if my flex lines were sending crud into my calipers as they rotted, causing them to stick a bit. Rotors and calipers for the P30 don't look to pricey.... might as well do both sides (said the guy with shipfitter's disease).

Just took it out for the first road test since "new" tranny.

All is good except drivers side front caliper is seized. Rotor hit 600F after less than a mile at 35MPH.

Just got everything bolted up and took it for a drive around the lot.

So far so good.

You have no idea how much stress it can cause doing a solo transmission overhaul on an RV.

Did this thing 100% on my own in a storage lot. Couldn't slide the cross member back very far or remove it so I had to remove the tail shaft housing including the parking brake drum to provide clearance. Putting it back in, I had to reverse the process by lifting the tail over the cross member first. Jacked it into place using a floor jack, a bottle jack, a ratchet strap and blocks.

After getting everything into place, it took almost 4 hours to install and tighten the 8 cross member bolts. No wonder the RV wreckers just cut them out!

Today, I take it out for a road test and see how it shifts. This is a heavy duty tranny with a 6 clutch direct pack. I added about $300 of upgrades to make it stronger yet. Set the clutch pack clearances tight like a Honda.

If you can't monitor your temp and pressure, you can't save a tranny that's about to let the smoke out. The forward clutch pack was literally welded together from slippage. Rig lost reverse, and park and neutral were like being in gear with no motion.

Had done a TH400 about 35 years ago on my race Nova. Have done so much study on the TH400 I feel like a specialist now.

You can never, and I mean never, have too many gauges....
