We are stepping out into the unknown, and beginning our full time RV life. We will be purchasing our first RV this month (hopefully) And we are wondering if any experienced fulltimers would have any advice for us, on how to tell if an RV has dry rot? and stuff to look out for when buying an older used RV.

First thing is to decide if you want a class C with slide (for full timers), Smaller class A, 5th wheel or travel trailer. All have their pluses and minuses. If you want to use state parks and some federal parks about 30 feet is max length allowed... or maybe cheat a little up to 32 feet. if you go class A you should have a "toad" vehicle or your excursions will be extremely limited. If you've got the bucks, fifth wheels with a diesel truck tow vehicle seem to be preferred by about 80 percent with the rest being 32 feet or so class A's. As for dry rot and other issues be SURE to have an rv tech check out the rig FIRST as well as a mechanic check out the engine and drive train; problems here can cost thousands of bucks Here's something i wroteLINK
