Our "new" Old VW Westfalia Camper Bus...

While on a National Parks vacation last year we saw old VW buses everywhere and they all looked like they were stuck in a time warp, back to a simpler time when camping just meant being outdoors and spending time by a campfire with the family.

Our old bus rolled off the assembly line in 1969… There was No personal computer, No WWW Internet, No Video Games, No Cell Phones, Not a single “luxury”…Basically to me what it might have been like going camping with the Skipper on Gilligan’s Island.

However, I thought to myself wouldn’t it be nice to just get outdoors, slow down, and enjoy the simpler times when camping didn’t mean pulling into a campsite, sliding out the slide, setting up the laptop, getting on the Air card’s Internet, and staying inside to watch a DVD. This seems to be the current habit our family is rooted in now… The life of technology junkies.

I will attempt to take you on our journey back in time as we restore our “new” old VW Bus, and re-think what camping is really all about.
