Well, a fun day. Started the Cabana this morning and went to check the post. Got back and she was not running, odd? Well, she would not start. Turns over OK. Check the likely suspects, gas-yes, but not in the filter(see thru type) Maybe a bad fuel pump? Still I can see gas in the carb. Spark? ahh haa no spark. Well I did put a new distributor in a while back. Maybe? Pull it out spin her over, and whoo. Drive gear and cam are not going round and round, very NOT!! good. Busted cam shaft or timing chain. 4 hours later, radiators out, motor is torn down to expose the busted timing chain and the loose cam thrust plate bolt that jammed the cam shaft gear breaking the timing chain. I guess the person who rebuilt the engine never heard of "Lock-Tight thread locker" It has some on those (new) pesky bolts now. LOL She should be back together tomorrow, just have to bolt the power steering pump, alt and water pump back on. And put the radiator back in.

Just a side note. Anytime you have your radiator out as i did today. Take it to your local radiator shop and have them flow test it. My local shop did it today, for free no less. All is good, passed with flying colors. But it took two and a half hours ($$$s in a shop) to get it out. Preventive maintenance is a good thing.

So I got lucky today. Yes, we did have break down but it happened in "my" parking lot where I can fix it. Not a hundred miles from nowhere. Napa had all parts I needed in stock. And i will be back on the road tomorrow. I sure am glad I'm sitting back on the boat, (our other house is a 50 foot sailboat) not working till midnight to get out of a bad spot. Following winds to all, Tony and Joy

Tony, wow and phew that it broke down at home rather than on the road and that you're a realy handy guy! Glad you were able to fix it and got a green light on the radiator. You know your stuff buddy! Anywher I can see a pic of your 50 footer? We're kinda boat nuts too. attached is a pic of my last restoration, a 34 ft 1950 tancook whaler sail boat... sails like a witch!
