I agree. Being an antiques dealer and real estate owner, you would be surprised what a good spraying of electric contact cleaner and Kroil can fix. Get stubborn motors started my hand spinning the motor and spray away. Fixes like this has saved many old motors that have not turned in a while. I get my sprays at the local auto store. I hope this helps.

Motor kits appear to be around $140-$150 on eBay on average, so $265 installed seems like a decent deal. You could save yourself $100 by installing it yourself, but I don't know what that entails. When I took the ceiling cover off of mine I could barely see the squirrel cage. I don't know how far you have to tear them down to get at the motor.

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions. I pulled the cawl off and the motor has over 1/8" end play. A neighbor lost his ac due to compressor and condenser. He said that I could have his fan. I do hope the specs match up. If not, I got a bid for $265. to install a new fan. That is parts and labor. Do you all think that is a fair price? He is going to check out the other one for no charge.

Have you removed the motor and bench tested it? From sitting they can have attitude and like Jim mentioned a few turns and maybe a lil w/d 40 and it might fire over and run.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. When my brother first got his TT, the AC fan was inoperative because it had sat a while. I took the cover off, turned on the power, and started the fan by hand (watch your fingers). The fan ran, and continues to run to this day (2 years later).
