In our quest to find a motorhome under $20,000 there always seems to be something seriously wrong with it. We checked out a 1999 fleetwood flair with no leaks or delam. In mint condition on the surface but when they turned on the AC it was obvious they had mice. Insulation in tiny pieces came raining down. My first impression was NO GO because of the damage you can't see...is it worth a second look since all rv get mice sometimes?

The mice are everywhere out here in the forest.I have 8 traps set at all times around the house and the garage. We average two kills a day. That's 730 mice a year.I always wear leather gloves when handling the traps and remains. The flea associated with rodents can carry the plague even to this day. That's just something you don't want to catch!

Rats and mice and other field critters carry the virus called Huntra virus, which is left in their feces and when it dries out it creates a *dust,, and breathing the vapor dust can be DEADLY... As Pat advised,, wear rubber gloves and a face mask... Using a spray bottle with a bleach solution and lightly spraying the dried feces will help eliminate airborne dust being stirred up.

When sealing up potential entry ways into the RV,, Metal screening material is an option which I have used on several repairs,, A hole the size of a dime is an invitation for rodents and spiders, etc.   Around gas lines that drop thru the floor to the underside are a perfect place for them critters to crawl thru.  Good ole fashioned steel wool around the piping and some spray foam insulation cures that pretty quick. Make sure where your fresh water supply connection is, that its sealed up where the mounting plate screws to the siding, Butyl Tape is best.  I still use *Home defense brand** spray around the wheels, springs, leveling jacks and water and power supply cord to keep ants and spiders from finding a way into my RV.    If it looks like something can get in,, then Murphy's law says they will.    Good luck.

Im trying to figure how they could get in. I seen them come in through the defroster/heater in the dash...destroyed the coach. Some of those ACs have friable insulation that will break down over time. Id look for feces under the shroud. It should be all metal surrounding the evaporator. I guess the AC gasket to the roof would be the only point of entry or a plumbing vent. Later ACs do have plastic...a point of concern I never considered.

I was going to say the same as Pat and Rich  take the a/c cover of and check also get under the MH and see if there are any holes in the floor insulation where mice have entered if so most likely more than one nest also was there any thing leaning against the MH if so that could be how they got there I would also check real good around the engine and tranny they like to nest in that area as well

If those little boogers packed the fan with insulation it came from somewhere. Might luck out and they've just pulled it from around the air conditioner housing. I would do as Pat suggest and pull the cowling off the air conditioner before I walked away, that's not a big deal to do and it may be they haven't found there way into the coach at all. good luck
