Please bare with me, first time on a forum. I have an Alfa Gold that came with an 80 amp converter which is having problems. I no longer use the belly air or the two RV refrigerators that came with it. Is there any reason I cannot use 50 or 60 amp converter?
Thanks so much, David

Highly recommend you give Randy at Best Converters a try. Company is honest with fair prices.
Randy is arguably the most knowledgeable person around when it comes to converters, and he will answer questions and give advice by email.
He has helped many throughout the RV community.
One thing to remember is that the refrigerator and AC unit run off 120 volts and have nothing to do with the 12 volts coming out of the converter. Some refrigerators do have an option to operate on 12 volts but most are gas/120 volts choice. Oops, not quite right, when a refrigerator is in gas operation mode, there is about a a 1 amp draw from the 12 volts for it to operate.
You need to do a maximum draw calculation to determine the minimum amp capacity for a converter. I found a web page that will aide you in making that calculation. You don't want to have the converter running near maximum draw all the time so you will need to add in a safety factor, for lack of a better term. Personally I would use a factor of 20%.
Good luck on your upgrade.
