1974 Dodge Champion mtrhm

Hi all !!

Thank you so much for accepting me to the site :) Looks like lot's of fun and a place where I can get helpful, honest advice. I am interested in buying a 1974 Dodge Champion mtr hm. Just from the pics it looks in very good shape. I have called the Dodge dealer in my area (Seattle) and they said the engine is a good one. It only has 61,000 miles on it.

Knowing that vintage vehicles are a labor of love (I have had many hot rods that needed love) I was wondering if some one here had some advice. I have looked at the check list, have it in hand, and going to "eye ball" the rig now.

My idea is to either get this rig or convert a short school bus or step van. Not sure which path to take. Don't really care about shower, bathrm...I can do that anywhere !!! lol

Food Trks are a big deal up here in Seattle but I think the idea is slowing fading away. I see several of them for sale on Craigslist. I don't really want to get involved in tearing out all that cooking equipment. I'll keep my eyes open and yes, something will "pop out" at me :) my gf is making a mini house on a trailer. It's so darn cute ! But I like the idea of "driving" something.

Thank you Rich ! Yes, I know the one you are thinking of. Those are nice. Years ago I had a '66 Ford panel van :) I loved it but after a few years I got tired of crawling over the "dog house" engine. It had custom interior & I bought it from a guy that was very honest about it. Driving up & down the Oregon coast was a blast. Now I think I want some thing I can stand up in. The old knees aren't what they used to be lol

I've tossed around converting one of those X- Passenger buses, I'm talking the 18-20 passenger fiberglass bodied trucks. The type they use for small city transport, corporate type deals or air port limo.they have a little wider body than say an old school bus and tend to be a little lower to the ground as well. just one of those things I'll most likely never do since I found my old class C but thought I would mention it as a possibility for you. Any way there are plenty of good solid older RV's out there and I think with your background you won't have to wait to long before one jumps off the page and strikes a cord. good luck

Thanx Carl ! Yes, when he opened the door I smelled it. Ewwww. I may be a girl but I know enough about cars to know what to look for. It's crazy how "some" men see a girl coming and think she is stupid. I have had so many hot rods, raced and won pick slips. I seriously think it would be fun to get a short school bus or step van and start from scratch. One of my gf & her husband are building a mini house on a trailer, so cute, and they left a shower and toilet out & put in a small pot-belly stove instead. Great idea.

mould means water leakage. Never look at a M.H. with out your mechanic. Leaking and mould can be fixed. The running part can be costley to fix and could be waste of time. Next might be the way to go, but take a mechanic be fore you make a deal. The warranty  runs out when you hand over the money. Buyer Be Ware. Take a long test drive all ways and let your friend drive   (20 miles or more)

Thanx SO MUCH ! Just got back from looking at it. Can you say " ewwww mold"! I didn't even go inside it was so bad. I was interested in a mtr hm, not a coffin lol. My feeling was the guy was looking to off load it. When he told me he hadn't started it up in 4 yrs, my skin crawled. I know enough about cars to know that is a no-no. Oh well. NEXT !!! lol

Going to a auto parts store Can be a pain, because the service people think a ;74 dodge MH chassis never was built. Look up the model # of the old girl and you find the M300, or M400 model. Then the parts store can find the parts. They are not lazy just do not have enough age to know the old Dodge MH did exist. Durn Kids. Dodge also built the chassis for the Winnies in the 70's
